Printed Bed Sheets in Pakistan

A printed sheet carries its design on the surface of the cloth instead of stitched into it. That makes it lighter, cheaper and simpler to wash than embroidered bedding, which is why it is what most Pakistani homes sleep on every day. Ours are cotton, made in Lahore and sold online only. How the colour gets onto the cloth

This one question decides whether your sheet still looks right after twenty washes, and almost no seller in Pakistan will explain it. There are two main ways colour is put on cotton.

• Reactive printing: The dye forms a chemical bond with the cotton fibre, so the colour sits inside the cloth rather than on it. The sheet keeps its soft feel and the design shows clearly on both faces.
• Pigment printing: Colour is held on the surface by a binder. It costs less and works on blended cloth, but the finish can feel slightly stiff until the sheet has been washed a few times.
• Neither is simply better: Researchers at Iowa State University tested both ink types on cotton against AATCC standards for laundering, rubbing, light and perspiration, and the results turn on how well the colour is fixed rather than on the method alone.

What matters when you are buying is that the seller knows which one they are selling. Most cannot answer. A block print bedsheet is stamped by hand with carved wooden blocks, so small gaps and overlaps between stamps are normal and are the mark of real block work rather than a fault. A digital print bed sheet is sprayed by machine, which allows shading and fine detail that stamping and rollers cannot reach.

What the thread count numbers mean

Bedding across Pakistan is labelled T-144, T-150, T-200, T-250 or T-300. The number counts how many threads sit in one square inch of cloth.

• T-144 and T-150: Lighter cloth. Dries fast, cool in summer, and the usual pick for a bed washed every week.
• T-200. Tighter weave: Feels smoother and holds finer detail in the design.
• T-250 and above: Heavier and more formal. Worth the money for a guest room, less so for a bed children sleep on.

A higher number is not automatically better. It is heavier cloth, which takes longer to dry in humid weather. For daily use through a Lahore summer, T-150 in pure cotton is enough.

Design types in this collection

• Floral: Roses, vines and leaf repeats. The steadiest seller in every bedding shop in the country.
• Geometric: Chevrons, diamonds, checks and stripes, which suit plain walls and simple wooden furniture.
• Botanical: Larger leaf and branch patterns in softer shades, chosen more often for newer flats.
• Damask and medallion: Traditional repeating motifs, usually picked for guest rooms.
• Polka dot and small repeats: A polka dot bed sheet is an easy match for a child's room or a second bed.
• Ethnic and mosaic: Local motifs in strong colours.

One practical point: Bright, colorful print sheets hide small marks far better than pale ones. If children sleep on the bed, or the room gets heavy daytime use, take a busier pattern in a mid tone rather than cream or white.

Matching the print to your room

Large patterns make a small room feel smaller, so in a compact bedroom a small repeat usually looks better. If your curtains are already patterned, take a plain or nearly plain sheet so the two do not fight each other. If the walls are white, which most rented homes in Lahore are, a strong print becomes the main colour in the room and does the work paint would otherwise do.

Choosing by season

From April to September, take pure cotton in a lighter thread count. It breathes and dries the same day. From November onwards most families move to heavier bedding, so the sheet sits under a quilt cover or a duvet set rather than being the top layer. Buying the sheet and the cover from the same design family saves you matching them later.

Sizes and how to measure

Our king sheet measures 94 x 97 inches and comes with two pillow covers of 19 x 29 inches. Single and double sizes are cut narrower, and the exact measurement for each design is listed on its own product page, so check there before ordering rather than assuming. Measure the length, width and depth of your gaddha first. Most Pakistani double beds take a king or double size with enough cloth left to tuck under on both sides. For a single bed the same design is available in a narrower cut. If your mattress is deep, or the sheet keeps pulling loose at night, choose printed fitted sheets instead. Those have elastic sewn into the corners and stay in place without tucking.

What the price is actually buying

Across Pakistan this category runs from roughly Rs 1,300 to Rs 17,000. Four things move the figure: thread count, whether the cotton is pure or blended, how many pieces come in the set, and the print method. A mill brand sheet at Rs 6,000 is usually paying for T-200 or T-300 cloth and a wider cut, not for a better picture. We sit at the value end of that range and would rather say so than pretend otherwise.

Printed, plain or embroidered

• Printed: Lowest cost, widest choice of design, hides marks well, easiest to wash. Best for daily use.
• Plain: Calmer look, pairs with patterned curtains, shows stains more readily. Good for a formal or guest room.
• Embroidered: Thread stitched into the cloth, heavier, costlier, needs gentler washing. Suited to occasions and jahez sets.

Washing so the colour holds

• Wash the sheet on its own the first time. New prints can release loose dye onto other clothes.
• Turn it inside out and wash cold on a gentle cycle.
• Use mild detergent. No bleach.
• Dry in shade. Direct Lahore sun fades a print faster than washing ever will.
• Iron on medium heat from the reverse side if the cloth needs it.

Kansas State University Extension notes that washing at the wrong water temperature causes dye loss, shrinkage and dye transfer between items in the same load. University of Hawaii extension guidance adds that cotton itself takes cleaning well, which is why a faded sheet is almost always down to a care mistake rather than weak cloth.

Why cotton, and why it is cheaper here

Pakistan is one of the larger cotton growing countries in the world, and Punjab is where most of the cloth is finished. Bedwear alone earned close to 3.1 billion dollars in the 2025 to 2026 fiscal year on Pakistan Bureau of Statistics figures. That scale is the reason cotton bedding costs less here than almost anywhere else, and the reason you should not have to pay a premium for it.
